Make It Work!

Ways to put a painting back on track to success

First things to check:

·         Values (Contrast of Dark and Light), distracting contrast areas

·         Composition

·         Color Scheme

·         Focal Area & Background

·         Light Source (Direction, highlights/shadows)

·         Balance and Unity/Variety

Tools and Techniques to Retrieve Your Artwork-in-Progress:

Watercolor

Lifting color (in order of harshness) - Water and blotting, water and scrubbing with stiff brush, Magic Eraser, garden hose!  (Try using those hosed-off ‘ghost’ paintings as a basis for others.)

Absorbent Ground (a new white surface that takes watercolor)

Glazing with [Cobalt Blue unifies and sends that area into the background]

Add transparent media - ‘Yes’ Paste and rice paper you can paint on

Add opaque media – Water-based pencil, crayons, pen, collage, pastel, acrylic

Add texture – stencils, salt

Matting – orientation and resizing  (2-piece mat you can make)

The Paper Cutter – cleaving, weaving, using pieces in collage

Acrylic

Isopropyl alcohol

Negative Painting

Texture Mediums – crackle, pumice, lava paste, moulding paste, marble dust, et al

Collage - ‘Yes Paste’ or Matte Medium used to attach papers

Gesso on problem areas.
